Meet Our Featured Caregiver for April: Kevin

At Sunny Days In-Home Care Great Lakes, we’re proud to recognize the compassionate individuals who make a difference in the lives of seniors and families across Northern Michigan. This month, we’re excited to spotlight Kevin, one of our dedicated caregivers serving clients in the Houghton area and surrounding Great Lakes communities.

Kevin has been part of the Sunny Days Great Lakes team for over a year, bringing kindness, reliability, and a positive attitude to every home he visits. Originally from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Kevin now calls Houghton, Michigan home—where he enjoys the natural beauty, outdoor lifestyle, and close-knit community that make the Upper Peninsula so special.

Getting to Know Kevin

Outside of caregiving, Kevin enjoys staying active and making the most of everything Northern Michigan has to offer. Whether he’s hiking local trails, spending time outdoors, or working out at the gym, he values a healthy and balanced lifestyle. He also enjoys reading, streaming his favorite shows—like The 100—and listening to alternative music.

Kevin’s favorite food is salmon, and a fun fact many people don’t know is that he once attended a G League basketball tryout as a player—something that reflects his drive, discipline, and commitment both on and off the court.

A Heart for Caregiving

What truly sets Kevin apart is his genuine passion for helping others. When asked what he enjoys most about caregiving, he shared that he values being someone people can rely on—a steady helping hand during important moments in their day.

Kevin describes caregiving as, “putting myself second, and helping those who need the assistance.” This mindset shines through in the way he connects with clients throughout the Houghton area and across the Great Lakes region, always leading with patience, respect, and compassion.

His advice for new caregivers is simple but meaningful: have patience, treat your clients like friends, and always bring a smile. These small actions can make a lasting impact on the people we serve.

A Memorable Moment

One of Kevin’s favorite memories comes from a lighthearted moment with a client, when a roommate said, “Have no fear, Kev is here.” It’s a phrase that perfectly captures the comfort and trust he brings into every home.
