Featured Caregiver of the Month – June: Meet Penny

At Sunny Days In-Home Care Great Lakes, we are proud to recognize caregivers who make a meaningful difference in the lives of seniors and families throughout communities across Michigan’s Great Lakes region. This June, we are excited to spotlight Penny as our Featured Caregiver!

Dedicated Caregiver Serving the Great Lakes Region

Penny has been a caregiver with Sunny Days Great Lakes for a year and a half. She lives in Manistique, Michigan, with her two daughters, Misty and Regina. Her caring nature, positive outlook, and dedication to helping others make her a valued member of our caregiving team.

Penny’s favorite food is spaghetti, her favorite movie is What About Bob?, and she enjoys listening to Old School Rock and Roll. One unique fact about Penny is that she has a fear of butterflies and moths, yet she still enjoys taking pictures of them because she finds them beautiful. When she is not caring for clients, she enjoys spending time outdoors mowing grass, feeding birds, and planting vegetables and flowers.

Why Penny Loves Caregiving

Penny’s favorite part about being a caregiver is meeting her clients’ needs and then having time to sit with them, share stories, laugh, and enjoy meaningful conversations. She believes caregiving is about more than assistance—it is about building relationships and bringing comfort to someone’s day.

When asked what caregiving means to her, Penny shared:

“Caregiving means you make life easier and more comfortable for others.”

Her advice to new caregivers comes from the heart:

“The job can be mentally and physically hard, but don’t give up. Think of the shoe being on the other foot, and look in the mirror and see the strongest person you’ve ever known. You are so loved and needed.”

One of Penny’s favorite memories involves a client who asked her to stop working for a few minutes and play with her cat. Watching the joy it brought her client became a special part of her daily routine, and now the cat eagerly waits for her at the door every morning.
