This August, we are excited to spotlight Rachel as our Featured Caregiver!
Rachel has been a caregiver with Sunny Days Northwestern PA for almost a year and has already earned the trust and admiration of both clients and coworkers. Originally from Butler, she continues to call Butler home. Rachel has been with her boyfriend for six years and is the proud mom of her six-year-old son, Jaxson, who she says changed her life and helped her become the best version of herself.
Her favorite food is chicken, cheese, and broccoli pasta, her favorite movies are Thirteen and Titanic, and she enjoys listening to hip-hop and R&B. A fun fact about Rachel is that even as a child, she loved helping older adults with their groceries at the store, and now she gets to continue helping others professionally! Outside of work, she enjoys watching TV, writing, going to the pool, spending time outside, and making memories with her son.
Why Rachel Loves Caregiving
Rachel’s favorite part about being a caregiver is how rewarding it feels to help others. She loves knowing that she can make a difference in someone’s life and appreciates how special and valued her clients make her feel.
To Rachel, caregiving means having compassion, patience, attentiveness, and a genuine love for what you do while also building meaningful connections with clients. Her advice to new caregivers is powerful:
“Be patient, willing to learn, and open to challenges. Every challenge is an opportunity to grow and become a better caregiver.”
One of Rachel’s favorite memories with a client was sitting outside with a client who had dementia, laughing and being silly together while her client wore sunglasses. It was a simple but joyful moment that Rachel will always remember.
